Kumaraswamy, who also heads the state JD(S) – an NDA ally at the Centre – made the remarks ahead of a coordination meeting between his party and BJP to firm up strategy for the Oct 23 polls to four council seats.
“Whatever the differences are, the Election Commission should tell the people what the truth is and protect the dignity of the institution,” he said, referring to reports of friction between the chief election commissioner and the two other commissioners of the poll panel. Congress, he said, rushed to cry foul without giving the constitutional body room to explain itself, and such conduct only chips away at public faith in the electoral process. He said the party would do better to let the poll panel sort out its internal matters transparently instead of turning it into a political football.
Bengaluru: Union minister HD Kumaraswamy Saturday had a piece of advice for Election Commission of India (ECI): stop staying silent and tell people the truth. He turned his fire on Congress , accusing the party of dragging a constitutional institution into political mudslinging. The Union minister went further, accusing Congress of making a habit of targeting constitutional bodies whenever the party’s own failures on the political or administrative front come under scrutiny.
