He said an offence would arise only if funds received could not be accounted for, and reiterated that all amounts had been declared and taxed. Vijayan said the matter had already been examined by courts in Keralam and by Supreme Court. He said paracetamol and IV fluids were in short supply, while essential medicines such as anti-rabies drugs were also unavailable in several hospitals.
Vijayan alleged that govt hospitals across the state were facing an unprecedented shortage of medicines, even life-saving drugs.

He noted that the agreement with CMRL predated the marriage of his daughter, Veena T, and that payment under the contract had been received in full, calling it unreasonable to suggest the arrangement had anticipated a future son-in-law.
