The new six-lane bridge over Ganga is almost complete
The decision comes against the backdrop of the record movement of around 2,800 buses during major bathing days such as Mauni Amavasya in earlier events. Regional manager Ravindra Kumar said a proposal for additional buses had been sent to the UPSRTC headquarters in Lucknow. “Mela administration and transport authorities are working on the arrangements in coordination with the railways so that buses from different directions are distributed across the city,” said deputy mela adhikari Vivek Shukla. Prayagraj : Pilgrims arriving in Sangam City for the 2027 Magh Mela will not have to negotiate the massive traffic jams that used to build up at the mela’s entry points, with the administration deciding not to set up a temporary bus stand at Bela Kachhar in Phaphamau. Railway authorities have been asked to run 10% additional train rakes on the circuit, while the roadways will increase bus availability to handle the additional rush. The Prayagraj region is to receive 33 electric buses in all, with 17 having arrived and 13 already operational, including buses on the Varanasi route.
Instead, buses arriving from Lucknow and Ayodhya will enter the city directly through the new six-lane Ganga bridge and drop passengers at the Bharat Scout and Guide College campus. The new arrangement is aimed at easing pressure on the Kachhar area, particularly during major bathing days when a large number of buses converge on the city. Buses from Gorakhpur, Deoria and Azamgarh will be handled at the sugar mill bus station, those from the Varanasi route at Jhunsi, while buses arriving from Rewa and Chitrakoot will be regulated at the Leprosy Mission bus station. The Kashi-Ayodhya-Prayagraj pilgrimage circuit is also expected to increase the number of visitors this year. Meanwhile, four modern electric buses have started regular operations on the Prayagraj-Lucknow and Prayagraj-Kanpur routes. The remaining buses are being processed for registration and will subsequently be deployed on routes including Ayodhya.
