Meerut : A 35-year-old farmer, his 28-year-old wife and their eight-year-old son died on Saturday after their house collapsed amid continuous heavy rain in Rahmatpur area of Lakhimpur Kheri.

Police said the family was asleep when a damp mud-and-brick wall gave way, bringing down the thatched roof and trapping them underneath. District magistrate Anjani Kumar Singh urged people to avoid unnecessary travel amid the continuous rain and said those without pucca houses could contact the administration for shelter in safe buildings. Further relief measures for those living in vulnerable houses in the area are being worked out,” he said.
Hearing the sound of the collapse, local residents reached the spot and began the rescue operation along with a police team. Mohan Kashyap, his wife Kavita and their son Golu were pulled out from under the rubble but had already succumbed to their injuries. “The administration is on alert and families whose houses have been damaged will be provided all possible assistance.
