NMC collects 2.5 lakh idols The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) received a massive response for its eco-friendly Ganapati idol collection drive during Ganeshotsav 2026, gathering 2.5 lakh idols across the city to protect local riverbeds from pollution. The total increased by 23,000 idols with respect to last year. Division-wise collection data showed Panchavati leading with 1.04 lakh idols, followed by New Nashik with around 33,000 idols, Nashik Road with around 50,000 idols, Satpur with around 25,000 idols, Nashik West with around 25,000 and Nashik East with around 12,000 idols. Out of these, plaster of Paris (POP) idols accounted for 2.4 lakh idols—including 154 idols exceeding six feet in height—while 8,443 clay (Shadu) idols were collected. The civic body had deployed 935 personnel to handle operations smoothly. 155 tonnes of Nirmalya Nashikites also ensured that Nirmalya (floral offerings) did not pollute natural water bodies, handing them over to the NMC for processing. In total, 155 tonnes of floral offerings were collected using 99 vehicles. The Panchavati division recorded the highest collection at 44 tonnes, followed by Cidco with 31 tonnes, Satpur with 28 tonnes, Nashik Road with 24 tonnes, Nashik West with 15 tonnes and Nashik East with 12 tonnes.
