Nashik : A 58-year-old real estate dealer and his 14-year-old son from Nashik’s Cidco area drowned in a deep-water pool formed by a stream in Pahine, under the Wadivarhe police jurisdiction, around 20km from Nashik city.
The deceased were identified as Sanjay Sonawane (58) and his son Shree Sonawane (14). However, due to fading light, Shree could not be located that evening. Within minutes, Shree lost his footing and began drowning. Hearing cries for help from the group members, the village sarpanch alerted local divers and villagers, who launched a search operation. Police said Sanjay was an active member of a local organisation dedicated to spirituality and personal development. Around 6pm, while the group was near a popular waterfall, Sanjay entered the deep-water pool fed by the cascading stream for a swim. Shree, who did not know how to swim, soon followed him. Sanjay attempted to rescue him but was also overwhelmed by the deep water, resulting in both being submerged. The Wadivarhe police registered a case of accidental death. On Thursday afternoon, Sanjay, his son and two other group members visited the scenic Pahine region in Trimbakeshwar taluka for an outing. Sanjay’s body was recovered around 7pm on Thursday. His body surfaced in the pool around noon on Friday.
