A young man drowned in a quarry in Nashik while participating in the immersion of household Ganapati idols on Friday evening. Following an overnight search, his body was recovered on Saturday morning. Authorities have not yet released the victim’s identity and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Rescue teams launched a search but had to suspend it after darkness fell. Inspector Mrudula Naik, of Nashik Taluka police, said Kharpate had accompanied several families to the quarry for immersion. Police said Kharpate entered the water around 6pm and drowned. “His body was traced around 11am and taken out of the quarry,” Naik said.
The deceased has been identified as Sandeep Kharpate of Chunchale Gharkul. The site was not a designated Ganapati immersion spot. Download the TOI App.
