DHARAPURAM: Tension prevailed near Pottikkampalayam in Dharapuram constituency on Saturday evening after a group of AIADMK cadres intercepted the campaign convoy of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) candidate V Sathyabama, triggering a heated altercation between AIADMK and TVK supporters.

AIADMK supporters allegedly raised slogans against Sathyabama, calling her a “traitor,” following which an argument broke out between the two groups. Sathyabama, who had switched from AIADMK to TVK, was campaigning in the constituency along with ministers K A Sengottaiyan, N Anand, K G Arunraj, T K Prabhu and other party functionaries when the AIADMK cadres confronted the group. The situation soon turned tense as cadres from both sides engaged in a heated confrontation. Amid the clash, Sathyabama and the ministers remained inside their vehicles instead of stepping out. Videos of the incident showed several vehicles belonging to the TVK candidate and the ministers parked at the spot while the confrontation continued outside. Police intervened and separated the cadres from both sides. They subsequently pacified the groups and brought the situation under control. Download the TOI App.
