Chennai: As many as 1,65,828 candidates appeared for the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission’s (TNPSC) preliminary exam on Sunday. The commission is conducting the exam to fill 46 vacancies in posts such as deputy collector and deputy superintendent of police. The exam is for 300 marks, and the candidates must answer 175 general studies questions and 25 questions asked to test their mental ability. Candidates will be shortlisted in a 1:20 ratio for the mains examination. Of 2,23,440 candidates who applied for the exam, 57,612 were absent.
Candidates said the exam was moderately difficult. It also did not have any questions related to the Tamil Nadu budget or schemes of the govt,” a candidate said. “We were disappointed as the current affairs question did not include any recent events. The paper was time-consuming.
