Health inspectors of Nanded division of SCR testing a water sample
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar : The Nanded division of South Central Railway (SCR) has further strengthened its water quality monitoring mechanism, conducting a 19-day intensive drive from September 3 to 21 across railway stations and railway premises to ensure safe and quality drinking water. “A total of 1,780 water samples were collected and tested, including 1,674 for residual chlorine, 94 for bacteriological quality to detect possible E. coli contamination, and 12 for chemical analysis. The results were satisfactory, with all 1,780 samples found fit for drinking and passenger use,” Chief publicity inspector of Nanded division of SCR, Rajesh Shinde said.

SCR authorities said the medical department of the division regularly monitors drinking water quality, conducting periodic residual chlorine checks along with bacteriological and chemical tests as per prescribed procedure. “Regular as well as intensive monitoring will continue to maintain prescribed standards, prevent waterborne diseases and protect the health of passengers and railway staff,” Shinde said. In the wake of the recent audit report of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) revealing dangerous E. coli and coliform bacterial contamination in drinking water at multiple railway stations in the country, Nanded division SCR last month had said that no such single case has found in the division.
During the drive, nine health inspectors inspected water supply systems, sources, storage, chlorination and distribution at stations and railway colonies, covering municipal and local body supply. Download the TOI App.
