Nashik : Taking advantage of families leaving their homes unattended during the Ganpati immersion processions on Friday afternoon, burglars targeted two locked residences in separate incidents under the Gangapur Road and Mhasrul police jurisdictions, making off with cash and valuables worth over Rs 4.3 lakh.
On Sept 25, a large number of families went to different areas of the city where the facility of immersing the idols and collecting them was made available by the Nashik Municipal Corporation. In the other house break-in reported to the Mhasrul police, the burglars used a 45-minute window period to break into a closed house to commit burglary involving cash and other articles worth over Rs 2.88 lakh. FIRs about the same have been registered at both Mhasrul and Gangapur Road police stations.
A family from Gangapur Road had been out for the immersion and a dinner outing between 5 pm and 9 pm, when an unidentified person broke open the door of their flat in a residential society and decamped with cash of Rs 90,000, gold jewellery of Rs 60,000 and a cellphone of Rs 3,000. The family of Kalanagar, Dindori Road had gone for Ganpati immersion at around 3.15 pm in Mhasrulgaon. When they returned at 4 pm, they noticed that some unidentified person had broken the lock of the entrance door of their row house and stolen gold jewellery of Rs 2.78 lakh, cash of Rs 3,000 and a cellphone of Rs 7,000.
