US FDA puts Hyderabad firm’s Fish Masala on Salmonella import-alert list

Hyderabad: The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has placed Fish Masala from Hyderabad-based Tejas Food Industries LLP on its Salmonella import-alert Red List, making shipments of the listed product liable for detention without physical examination when offered for entry into the US. Salmonella causes an infection called Salmonellosis (or salmonella food poisoning), which primarily leads to inflammation of the digestive tract. The action is specific to Fish Masala. The public entries neither extend the alert to all Tejas products nor establish that its entire manufacturing facility is contaminated. The Tejas entries, however, do not identify a batch or lot number, shipment quantity, US importer, port of entry, sampling date, Salmonella serotype or laboratory result.
