The CCTV camera footage at the jewellery store has captured two thieves entering the jewellery store after making a huge hole in the common wall and decamping with silver articles on display. However, their attempt to break open the treasury safe in the vault room failed as the alarm siren rang and the thieves fled.
Navi Mumbai: In a breakthrough in the heist at Meghana Jewellers store in Kopri village, sector 26A, Vashi, wherein two men had broken through the common wall of the rented shop and the adjacent jewellery store with tools on Friday around 3 am and had decamped with around 2.5 kg of silver articles estimated to be worth around Rs 6 lakh kept on display at the jewellery store, APMC police arrested one accused from Mankhurd on Sunday. Abasaheb Patil, senior inspector of APMC, said, “The arrested accused’s identity cannot be revealed, as of now, as it will loosen the strings of the investigation and the three wanted accused will become alert. Accordingly, a manhunt has been launched for the other three accused.
The arrested accused man was involved in the heist for keeping a watch outside the jewellery store, while the two gang members were breaking the common wall of the rented shop. Four thieves, all hailing from Jharkhand, had executed the crime, including the tenant, who had rented the shop next to the jewellery store, under the guise of fruit selling business. The accused tenant and his two other aides have been identified after the arrested accused disclosed their identity during interrogation. We have got vital leads of the absconding accused and a police team is tracking them. Only after the three absconding accused are arrested, the stolen silver articles will be recovered.”
