The naval weapons station opened in 1944 as a munitions storage facility and fell out of use in 1999
The redevelopment plan is much larger than the 2,422 acres covered by the financial agreement. The wider plans include 12,272 housing units, a 75-acre first responder training facility, a 4-acre veterans community centre and a $5 million sports park, according to SFGATE. The plans also include 5,038 acres for Thurgood Marshall Regional Park, 16 acres for permanently supportive housing and 10 acres for food bank expansion.
Additional discussions with residents are expected to begin in early 2027 as Concord and Brookfield work on the Specific Plan and other documents needed for the development.
