CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu school education minister A Rajmohan termed the demand for the removal of chief election commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged unilateral decisions during the special intensive revision (SIR) exercise — which resulted in the deletion of over 13 crore electors — as “diversion tactics. ” He said the TVK would not yield to such gimmicks and remained firm on its opposition to the SIR exercise. He made it clear that the SIR exercise should be streamlined to ensure a free and fair election,” said the minister, responding to a question on why the TVK was remaining silent over the alleged unlawful acts of Gyanesh Kumar that was exposed by The Indian Express newspaper. He said Gyanesh Kumar was being made a “scapegoat” to divert attention from the deeper issue. “Removing a single person from the post will not address the issue,” he said, adding that the party insisted on revamping the entire exercise.
“The entire process of SIR is a scam. We have been opposing it from the beginning. We continue to oppose it. However, the party would not yield to such a gimmick.
