NAMAKKAL: A man died after the motorcycle he was riding on fell into a stormwater canal near Tiruchengode on Sunday night.

An officer at the Tiruchengode rural police station said Kannan was returning home after work on his motorcycle on the Kailasampalayam-Appurpalayam road when he fell into the canal near Appurpalayam Colony. “The accident went unnoticed at night,” the officer said. A painter, he had recently been staying in Appurpalayam for work. Police retrieved the body and sent it for postmortem. They registered a case and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident. Residents raised concerns about the absence of safety measures along the canal, saying the lack of protective barricades posed a danger to motorists. They urged authorities to secure the roadside near Appurpalayam Colony to prevent similar accidents. Download the TOI App.
