New Delhi: The row over Delhi minister Parvesh Verma slapping an aide of AAP MLA Jarnail Singh during a confrontation over a newly built road in west Delhi’s Vikaspuri Sunday flared up, with Verma hitting out at AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal for visiting the area Monday.
“I want to tell Kejriwal that while you visit such sites, young girls are being beaten up in our Punjab…. so please say a word or two about them as well,” Verma said, adding that Kejriwal was also silent on the issue of women’s safety in Lovely Professional University in Phagwara, a reference to rumours of rape and suicide of a student sparking violent campus protests.
According to a complaint on the basis of which an FIR was registered in Tilak Nagar police station, the worker, Dhan Bahadur, was allegedly assaulted by three to four people, who then forcibly abducted him on a scooter. “You beat a woman Rajya Sabha MP and the chief secretary and you are using the name Gen-Z, which is very sad,” he said. Delhi BJP president Harsh Malhotra said the speech and “political drama” staged by Kejriwal during his visit to Vikaspuri Monday “reflected the duplicity in his conduct and politics” and “stunned” the people of Delhi.
He managed to finally free himself with the help of some people after the scooter stopped near the corner of a street, Bahadur claimed, adding he was taken to hospital for treatment.
