Varanasi: A huge stock of table fans, manufacturing materials, paint and chemicals was damaged after a fire broke out in the warehouse of a fan manufacturing company in Marhauli area under Manduadih police station early on Monday morning.
Over eight fire tenders and 50 fire fighters worked hard for over 10 hours to douse the fire. The blaze reportedly started around 3.30 am and quickly spread through the premises, engulfing the building and sending thick black smoke into the surrounding area. The exercise continued till evening. Company officials and the watchman noticed the fire and alerted Manduadih police and the fire department.
Chief fire officer Anand Singh Rajput said that around 4.15 am an alert of the fire was received, after which fire tenders were rushed from Chetganj, Bhelupur and other stations. All persons inside the warehouse were rescued and teams were asked to stay there till the flames were doused completely. Large quantities of paint, flammable chemicals and packing materials stored in the warehouse caused the fire to spread rapidly and made it difficult to douse.
It is suspected that a short circuit in electric wires caused the fire; however, the CFO said that a detailed investigation will clarify the actual cause of the fire and the exact amount of the losses.
