Pune: A social media influencer from Sinhagad Road, who participated in a prominent Marathi reality show, was arrested by the Kalepadal police for allegedly barging into the house of a 65-year-old former chief medical officer of Pune Cantonment Hospital and assaulting him with sharp weapons, demanding Rs5 lakh as extortion for allegedly publicising an event at Balgandharva Rangmandir on Sept 24.
The complainant sustained injuries and after recovering from his injuries, he lodged a complaint against the woman influencer and her 10 accomplices with the Kalepadal police station on Friday. The complainant retired as the chief medical officer of Pune Cantonment Hospital in 2021 and is a member of a social foundation, according to the police. The organisation conducted a function at Balgandharva Rangmandir from Sept 1 to 3.
Senior inspector Girisha Nimbalkar of Kalepadal police told TOI , “We have arrested the influencer on the charge of trespassing, extortion and assault. Neither the complainant nor the organisation had officially invited the influencer to the event, nor had anyone asked her to publicise it. However, claiming that she had publicised the event, she began demanding Rs5 lakh from the complainant through phone calls and messages in Aug.
