Ahmedabad: Owners away in the US, an apartment in the Manekbaug area was burgled, with the intruder making off with silver articles and AED 2,500 collectively valued at around Rs 2.9 lakh. The house owner’s brother-in-law filed a complaint with Satellite police stating that his sister and her husband left for the US around three months ago to meet their children, locking their apartment in Jeevan Asha society. They had left a key with their domestic worker for the house to be cleaned.
On Sept 19, the house owner noticed that the CCTV he had installed in the house was not relaying a feed since noon, and asked the brother-in-law to check, according to the complaint. On Sept 23, the brother-in-law and his wife entered the house using a spare key and found the DVR and Wi-Fi router missing and household articles scattered around. The complainant stated that AED 2,500, equivalent to around Rs 65,000, was missing from a locker. About 1.5kg of silver coins and utensils, valued at Rs 2.3 lakh, were also gone.
Because they did not have bills for the silver articles, the complainant told police that they did not file the complaint earlier. The master bedroom’s window grille had been widened, apparently by the intruder to enter.
