BENGALURU: A day of games, music, dance and camaraderie awaits over 800 senior citizens from old-age homes across the city as the sixth edition of Hiriyara Jaatre is set to be held on Oct 4. Organised by V The Volunteers (VTVO), the annual elders’ fest will bring together senior citizens from more than 40 old-age homes for a day dedicated to celebration and companionship. The event, which began in 2017, aims to provide elders with an opportunity to step out of their regular routines, meet fellow senior citizens and participate in activities that celebrate their talents and interests. More than 800 volunteers will assist with the programme and ensure participants are taken care of.
The senior citizens and old-age homes won’t be charged for attending the event, organisers said. Organisers said the event is designed to ensure elders remain participants rather than mere spectators. This year, the event will be held at New Horizon Gurukul, Kadubeesanahalli, east Bengaluru. From cultural performances and fashion shows to fun competitions, one-minute games and sports activities, the day will have a mix of entertainment and recreation. Download the TOI App.
