SALEM: The Federation of Bus Operators Associations of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday called off the proposed 24-hour strike against the state govt’s free travel scheme for women, which is set to be extended to more categories of govt buses starting Oct 2.
The federation, which on Monday announced that all private buses would remain off the roads for 24 hours from midnight on Sept 29 till midnight on Sept 30, on Tuesday called off the proposed strike following assurances by revenue and transport ministers that issues it raised would be resolved through dialogues, Salem District Private Bus Owners Association president K Raveendran told reporters. Raveendran said despite losses, private operators continued to serve the public. He demanded that subsidies and concessions provided to govt transport corporations be extended to private buses, including fare revisions and free travel scheme compensation. Download the TOI App.
