A special coordination meeting was held through video conference on Tuesday evening discussed a daily coal supply target of 75,500 tons. Hyderabad: The Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) and Telangana Genco have jointly prepared an action plan to ensure uninterrupted coal supply to thermal power stations owned and being managed by the TG Genco’s in the state in view of growing electricity needs amid El Niño conditions.
Singareni’s marketing department officials said 15.02 lakh tons of coal had been supplied to TG Genco power plants by road and rail up to September 28 this month. During the corresponding period last September, supply stood at 11.44 lakh tons. This represents an increase of 3.58 lakh tonnes, or approximately 31%, they said.
TG Genco officials informed the meeting that electricity demand had risen due to dry conditions associated with El Niño and that additional coal was needed to support higher generation.
