Deputy commissioner of police Sachin Gore said the arrested accused, identified as Hasnain Gulam Raza Sayyed and Kabir Annu Sayyed, both residents of Patil Nagar in Kalyan’s Ambivli, had been involved in chain-snatching offences and had previously faced action under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act. The incident took place around 9pm, when personnel from Badlapur West police’s anti-chain-snatching squad patrolling the Walivali area noticed two motorcycle-borne men matching the description of suspects in chain-snatching cases. Police began following them, but one of the men allegedly used pepper spray against the personnel and escaped amid the commotion, while his aide was apprehended. Police continued searching and alerted personnel nearby. Soon after, an autorickshaw driver spotted the fleeing suspect near the traffic chowky close to Badlapur West railway station and alerted police. A police team reached the spot and apprehended the accused.
