Kolkata: The state budget tabled by the Bengal govt in parity with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) was showcased and deliberated in detail at the Niti Aayog meeting held at a star hotel in New Town on Tuesday .
A total of 17 SDGs has been established under the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda, and NITI Aayog is responsible for monitoring the progress of these goals within India.
State finance minister Swapan Dasgupta made the presentation and delved into the procedure of formulation and interpretation of the budget,” said a Nabanna official. The meeting assumes significance with the Union govt embarking on implementing SDGs, prioritizing poverty eradication, improved health and education, access to clean water and energy, and environmental conservation. NITI Aayog is formulating a blueprint for this initiative in consultation with all relevant departments. Finance ministers from almost all the states attended the meeting. “This was the first time when the Bengal budget was tabled keeping in mind the SDGs. Planning Commission members, high-ranking officials from the office of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) and the ministry of statistics were among others present in the meeting.
