Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited is set to roll out a 5.24% decrease in electricity bills for October
LUCKNOW: Electricity consumers across Uttar Pradesh will receive another reduction in their power bills in October, with the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) announcing a 5.24% negative Fuel and Power Purchase Adjustment Surcharge (FPPAS). This is the fourth consecutive month that consumers have benefited under the monthly FPPAS mechanism.
The rebate will apply to all consumer categories and is expected to provide relief of about Rs 425 crore. UPPCL’s Regulatory Affairs Unit issued the order on Tuesday, stating that the adjustment has been calculated on the basis of power purchase and transmission costs incurred in July 2026. Under the Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission’s Multi Year Tariff Regulations, 2025, FPPAS is applied in the third month after the expenditure is incurred. UPPCL procured 16,407.07 million units of electricity in July, according to the calculation sheet. The average power purchase cost worked out to Rs 4.69 per unit against the approved cost of Rs 4.94 per unit. The total consumer benefit has been estimated at Rs 424.45 crore against projected October billing of Rs 8,097.76 crore, translating into a 5.24% reduction. Consumers had earlier received FPPAS rebates of 4.43% in July, 2.92% in August and 7.93% in September.

Welcoming the decision, UP Rajya Vidyut Upbhokta Parishad president Avadhesh Kumar Verma said the relief reflected lower power purchase costs and transparent, rule based implementation of the FPPAS mechanism. Accordingly, the July calculation will be reflected in consumers’ October electricity bills. The lower procurement cost resulted in a negative adjustment. Download the TOI App.
