Maruthi , a mini-goods vehicle driver from Ramamurthynagar, told police he had parked his vehicle near Agara Lake around 7.30am and went towards the waterbody with friend Sharanabasava to relieve themselves. He suspected the baby was already dead and called police helpline 112. A case has been registered under BNS Section 94 (concealment of birth by secret disposal of dead body) of BNS based on Maruthi’s complaint.
A Hoysala patrolling team confirmed the baby was dead. They noticed a bag lying nearby, with what appeared to be a baby’s leg protruding through an opening. On checking, Maruthi found blood on the leg and realised it was a newborn. It had been wrapped in a bedsheet and placed in the bag. HSR Layout police subsequently shifted the body to the mortuary for further examination and to ascertain the cause of death. Police are trying to identify the baby’s parents or those responsible for abandoning him.
