Speakers from teachers’ associations from Calcutta University, Jadavpur University, and other universities addressed several issues that institutions will face if the bill comes into effect. The West Bengal Universities and Colleges (Administration and Regulation) Bill was passed in the assembly on Sept 10, allowing teachers and staff members to be transferred from one state university to another. WBCUTA president Subhodaya Dasgupta said, “We urge the chancellor not to sign this undemocratic transfer bill. Each university is unique, so how can teachers and staff be transferred from one to another? Members of teachers’ associations from JU, CU, RBU, and other universities voiced their concerns. Representatives from ABUTA JU chapter attended as well. Members of various university teachers’ associations called for organising a convention soon to consolidate different voices against the bill.
