New Delhi: Two alleged armed criminals were arrested after a brief exchange of fire with police in central Delhi’s Paharganj Monday.
The search for the accused began after a firing incident took place in Sadar Bazaar on Sept 13 during a religious procession. “Preliminary inquiry revealed that rival Prakash-Chinnu and Vikas Kalia groups were involved in the incident.
Members of the Kalia group had allegedly fired three to four rounds, leading to a passerby getting injured by a bullet,” said joint CP Madhur Verma. The accused, Akash and Mukesh , had allegedly come to the area on a stolen motorcycle to target members of a rival gang. Based on a tip-off, a trap was laid. The accused duo fired four rounds at the police team, out of which one hit the bulletproof jacket of head constable Rajvir. The cops fired three rounds in retaliation which struck the accused’s legs. They were subsequently shifted to a hospital.
