Nashik: The demand for the resignation of tribal development minister Ashok Wooike has intensified as the tribal students’ protest entered its 43rd day, with protesters continuing their long march on foot toward Raj Bhavan in Mumbai.
A delegation of student representatives held discussions with CM Devendra Fadnavis , Guardian Minister Girish Mahajan, MLA Hiraman Khoskar, and MLA Nitin Pawar regarding their charter of demands. During the meeting, the govt presented a proposal to the agitating students.
The agitators continue to demand for the resignation of tribal development minister Ashok Wooike, administrative transfers of the tribal development department secretary and commissioner, written commitments on welfare issues including better facilities at ashramshalas, removing central kitchen facilities that provide food at the ashramshalas over lack of quality food, and compensation for families of female students who died due to snake bites in a residential ashram school. Student representatives are scheduled to hold further discussions on Wed morning with students who are walking on foot. Until then, no decision has been taken regarding the future course of the agitation, and the students will remain stationed at Igatpuri.
