Bhagwat addressed an event at Deendayal Seva Pratishthan in Yavatmal on Tuesday
Addressing a public event at Deendayal Seva Pratishthan in drought-hit Yavatmal, to mark Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya’s birth anniversary month, Bhagwat said, “Development is definitely happening in our country but it might not be happening for all. Some might say that in such a big country it is not possible to have development for all, fair enough. But then the difference between development of the one on top and the person at the bottom rung should be as little as possible. ”
Yavatmal : Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Tuesday said ‘vikas’ (development) must benefit those at the bottom of the social ladder, arguing that growth should narrow, rather than widen, the gap between different sections of the society.
Because the grain is needed for the society, their father called both the sons and said only wheat will be grown.
Quoting Mahatma Gandhi , Bhagwat said public policy and development initiatives should be evaluated by their impact on the most disadvantaged. Mahatma Gandhi had said we should always think whether our actions will benefit that last man,” he said. Bhagwat said the development must be universal. He said Indian farmers have traditionally looked at their profession as a means to feed the world, rather than chase cash crops purely for profit. Currently it is being practised by some in Yavatmal and soon it will spread across Vidarbha,” Bhagwat said. Recounting an anecdote on farmers prioritising social welfare over commercial gains, he said, “There was once a family in which the younger generation decided to drop wheat crop and grow something else which brings in the money. With planned animal husbandry, farmers can produce their own natural fertilizers and their own seeds, which will ensure that they ultimately get out of the debt trap,” he said. Bhagwat also said infrastructure development and environmental conservation should complement each other rather than work at cross purposes.
“Vikas should be done keeping the last man in the line in mind. “You can say that development should be for specific sections of the society. Bhagwat highlighted sustainable farming practices being promoted by Deendayal Seva Pratishthan and adopted by local cultivators. “Our people here have shown how farming can be done in a manner which is beneficial to all. This is how we have always thought. Calling soil health central to sustainable agriculture, Bhagwat advocated organic farming and integrated animal husbandry. “For farmers it is important to also take care of the soil. Using organic methods of farming is crucial.
