Chandrapur : Chintamani Institutions has emerged as the preferred bidder to take over the management of Anand Niketan College at Anandwan in Warora, after Maharogi Sewa Samiti invited expressions of interest from educational institutions to run the college.
It operates from a nearly 25,000 sq ft building spread across five acres. However, the management has cited the deteriorating condition of the building as a major concern, saying reconstruction would require an estimated ₹110 crore. It subsequently invited expressions of interest on Sept 4 from capable educational institutions for transferring the management of the college.
The management change can be formally announced only after the proposal is approved by Gondwana University, followed by clearances from the state govt and the charity commissioner. The college is a six-decade-old institution founded by social reformer Baba Amte. It is affiliated with Gondwana University and offers undergraduate courses in science and commerce. Despite efforts to mobilise funds for the reconstruction, Maharogi Sewa Samiti reportedly found it difficult to raise the required amount. However, the transfer is not final yet.
