United States’ response to Iran’s seven-day peace plan was formally delivered to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Wednesday may include resequencing of the original plan.
Earlier, Iranian government spokeswoman Fatemeh Mohajerani stated that foreign minister Abbas Araghchi was informed of the response through Qatari mediators, IRNA news agency reported. WSJ reported.
Mohajerani said the US failed to isolate Iran politically, stating that numerous meetings were held with European, Arab and other countries. “Despite the enemy’s attempts to isolate Iran politically, the Iranian delegation’s presence in New York was a major focus of attention”, Mohajerani said, adding that diplomatic efforts were “being pursued diligently” to find solutions to the crisis. Last week, US President Donald Trump had rejected the peace proposal and told aides he could resume bombing Iran after the November midterms. On Sunday, US Ambassador to the United Nations, Mike Waltz, said that the US rejected the proposal to reopen Hormuz because Tehran was looking for sanctions relief and access to “billions in frozen assets” before talks on its nuclear programme.
