Ambernath : The Ambernath police have registered an FIR against former corporator Surendra Yadav and seven members of his family for allegedly assaulting a woman, leaving her bleeding from a head injury. The FIR was registered after a TOI report highlighted the incident and alleged police inaction. The case follows a complaint by Barkha Kashyap, who had alleged that despite sustaining a head injury in the assault, police had initially registered only a non-cognisable (NC) complaint instead of an FIR. After leaving the spot, Kashyap approached Ambernath police station and sought action against those allegedly involved. She claimed that police initially recorded an NC and advised her to undergo medical treatment. Kashyap had questioned why an FIR was not registered in the assault case despite her alleged injury. She had also alleged that Yadav’s political connections were influencing the police response.
Yadav and his family members were installing a gate in the lane outside her house, which she claimed would obstruct access to her residence, according to Kashyap. She said she sustained an injury to her head and started bleeding. When she questioned them about the installation, an argument allegedly broke out. Kashyap alleged that Yadav and his family members subsequently pulled her by her hair, pushed her to the ground and assaulted her with kicks and blows.
