Kochi : A 48-year-old man was killed after a tanker truck hit his two-wheeler at High Court Junction around 3am on Wednesday. The deceased was Binu of Ochira. His relative Preetha, who was travelling with him, sustained serious injuries and was admitted to the intensive care unit of Kottayam medical college hospital.
The complainant, Alwin George, 20, of Arakkuzha, alleged that the incident occurred around 7.15pm on Tuesday in front of Burger Lounge near the college. Police registered a case against four persons under Sections 126(2), 115(2) and 3(5) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Two of the accused are named Jinu and Gayos, while the other two are listed as unknown individuals, according to the FIR. Central police registered a case against the driver, Rafeek of Aroor, for negligent driving and culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The tanker truck was taken into police custody. As per the complaint, Alwin was returning home after the election when one of the accused allegedly pulled him off his friend’s motorcycle. Another accused allegedly questioned Alwin about pushing a person named Akhil and punched him on the nose. After Alwin moved away from the spot, he was allegedly pushed to the ground. The FIR further alleges that Jinu kicked Alwin on the left cheek and Gayos kicked him on the left side of his abdomen, causing bodily pain. Download the TOI App.

The tanker truck was travelling from Menaka towards Kaloor when it collided with the scooter. Binu and Preetha were thrown onto the road and sustained serious head injuries. The truck driver took them to the hospital, but Binu could not be saved.
