A 19-year-old BCom student named Yogesh was stabbed to death near his college in Nagarabhavi
BENGALURU: A 19-year-old BCom student was stabbed to death in public near his college in Nagarabhavi on Wednesday afternoon, moments after he was called out of class to meet a person. The incident occurred around 2.30pm and caused concern among students and residents in the area. He stepped out with a classmate and encountered a group of 5-6 youths, including one of his college mates.

Police said Yogesh, a resident of Nagadevanahalli and a first-year student at Mahesh PU College, was attacked by a group of youths, following an argument near a gym behind the college. Yogesh received a call while attending class and was asked to come out and meet someone, according to police. “The injury was deep, so we suspect the weapon used was a dagger,” police said. Deputy commissioner of police (West) Yatish N said a special team had been formed to trace the attackers. A senior police officer said a girl known to Yogesh and one or more of the attackers could have been the trigger for the confrontation, though it was yet to be established. “The attackers are residents of Laggere and surrounding areas,” the officer added.
An argument broke out, following which the group assaulted Yogesh. One of them stabbed him in the chest with a sharp weapon. The attackers fled, while the classmate who had accompanied Yogesh rushed him on a bike to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead on arrival. Download the TOI App.
“We are yet to ascertain the motive behind the attack. Except Yogesh’s classmate who was among the assailants, all the others involved in the attack are outsiders.”
The victim’s classmate who accompanied him to the spot before the attack and later filed a police complaint, claimed he was not sure what the argument was about as he was at a distance.
