Thane: The recent spate of crimes in Thane city, including the Tuesday killing of UBT Sena functionary Pradeep Purnekar and that of a sub-inspector last week, among others, led the opposition parties to question on Wednesday if Thane was fast becoming a ‘Wasseypur’ of Maharashtra .
“Major crime incidents were reported in the city in the last 15 days, with the most prominent being the killing of an on-duty police sub-inspector.
The spate of crime incidents reported here makes me wonder if we should now call our city as ‘Wasseypur,” said Manoj Pradhan, district president of NCP (SP), taking a dig at the authorities over the law and order situation in the city and comparing it with the reel-life situation in the movie ‘Gangs of Wasseypur. ’ Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut on Wednesday attacked Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis over the killing of the UBT functionary in Thane, calling it a “disgrace” for the state home department. UBT Sena MLA Aaditya Thackeray also targeted the govt over such “repeated” incidents, which he claimed prove that the state’s law and order situation was deteriorating. “It is becoming increasingly difficult for ordinary citizens to live in safety,” he said, “demanding the immediate arrest of all those involved.”
