CM DK Shivakumar launched development projects on Wednesday at Kollegal in Chamarajanagar district and handed over benefits to people
He said the govt has implemented development projects worth Rs 3,000 crore in the district. He also asserted that all five guarantee schemes would continue and expressed confidence that the Congress would return to power in the 2028 assembly elections. The CM further announced that he had approved projects for the rejuvenation of lakes and the filling of lakes with water from the Suvarnavathi River at a cost of Rs 120 crore in Chamarajanagar district. He also highlighted Rs 459 crore worth of development works undertaken in Gundlupet taluk and measures initiated to distribute food kits to vulnerable tribal communities living in the forests of nine districts across Karnataka.

Speaking after inaugurating a slew of development projects in Chamarajanagar district at Kollegal town, he said the state govt is committed to the overall development of Chamarajanagar, a traditional Congress stronghold that has elected seven Congress leaders to Parliament. The CM also said the govt will focus on reviving sericulture and silk production in Kollegal to restore its past glory. Pointing out that cocoon prices have increased, he said a growing number of farmers are taking up sericulture, leading to an expansion of the sector in the district. Shivakumar said the govt has taken a historic decision to grant industrial status to the handloom sector, enabling it to upgrade production activities.
He added that sericulture has also expanded to Haveri, Gadag and Ballari districts. He claimed that the Congress had emerged victorious in regions where Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra passed through, including Chamarajanagar. Download the TOI App.
