Mysuru: Karnataka DG&IGP MA Saleem on Wednesday reviewed the preparedness of Mysuru city and district police for the 11-day Dasara celebrations scheduled to be held from Oct 11 and inspected venues of key Dasara events, including Mysuru Palace, the starting point of the Dasara procession.
The DG&IGP directed police to ensure the celebration is incident-free, without any inconvenience to the public, visitors and VVIPs, and promised to provide additional manpower and barricades, according to police officers. Deputy commissioner of police (law and order) Harsh Priyamvada said that the city police have sought additional personnel and barricades for this year’s Dasara celebrations, to manage crowds and maintain law and order across major venues. Deputy commissioner of police (traffic and crime) KS Sundar Raj said Saleem instructed police officers during the meeting to be tourist-friendly, ensure smooth movement of VVIPs, and facilitate visitors and the public attending various Dasara programmes.
Saleem, accompanied by commissioner of police Seema Latkar, also visited the kambala event venue and Yuva Dasara place in east Mysuru, and Banni Mantap parade grounds in north Mysuru. The inspection aimed at assessing crowd management plans, entry and exit arrangements, barricading, surveillance coverage, traffic diversions, emergency response readiness, and deployment of personnel at each location. Saleem also visited Banni Mantap grounds where VVIPs will gather on the final day of the celebration. With the addition of kambala to the Dasara programme, Karnataka police will deploy additional force to manage crowds for the two-day event.
