Times News Network Kanpur: District Magistrate Mahendra Singh Tanwar has directed departments to complete road improvement works within 20 to 25 days, before Diwali , following a late-night inspection of roads and sanitation arrangements on Tuesday. Officials also inspected the GVP at Fazalganj in Zone 5, where garbage was being collected in an unauthorised manner. Tanwar directed officials to contact police, if required, and take effective action against those creating disorder, while prioritising the safety of officials and sanitation workers. Officials were instructed to ensure garbage was transported directly to the transfer station and portable compactor transfer station. Responsibility would be fixed if garbage was found in the open along main routes. Tanwar saidDepartments or officials failing to meet deadlines would face action. Download the TOI App.
PWD has identified about 73 roads for repairs and improvement, while the corporation has undertaken repairs and layering work on about 500 roads.
PWD officials said operations at the hot-mix plant were proposed to begin within three days, after which strengthening work would be undertaken on identified routes. Tanwar said the corporation and PWD must clearly define their areas of work and responsibilities. No compromise on quality or deadlines would be accepted, he said.
Tanwar, municipal commissioner Arpit Upadhyay and chief development officer Abhinav Jain inspected the city with officials from the administration, Kanpur Municipal Corporation and Public Works Department. They assessed major routes, damaged roads, repair work and sanitation in the municipal area. Tanwar directed departments to coordinate and complete the projects within the stipulated period.
