Ashamol Kuriyakose blocks the bus for allegedly hitting her friend’s scooter

Mattancherry resident Muhammad Rizwan and his friend Ashamol Kuriyakose lodged a complaint with Kalamassery Police against the bus ‘Wahabiya’, which operates on the Thevara route. The complainants alleged that the bus repeatedly sounded its horn in a frightening manner before hitting the two-wheeler from behind, causing Rizwan to lose his balance. The incident led to a confrontation on the busy stretch, with Ashamol, who was also travelling on a two-wheeler, reportedly standing in front of the bus and protesting the alleged reckless driving. Traffic East Police personnel intervened to clear the road. Visuals of Ashamol standing in front of the bus later circulated on social media. She added that following the incident, she received support from various quarters for standing up against the alleged rash driving. However, no case had been registered till the time of reporting. Further action is expected based on the complaint and details gathered by the police. Amid a rise in complaints of rash driving by private bus drivers, police have begun the process of identifying drivers with criminal backgrounds through police-issued identification cards. The applications are currently under scrutiny for police clearance.
