Lucknow: The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) has proposed higher allocations for road repairs, streetlights, building maintenance and other civic works in its revised budget for the current financial year, scheduled to be presented before the executive committee (EC) on Oct 1. The EC meeting, chaired by mayor Sushma Kharkwal, will be held at the Bharwara sewage treatment plant (STP) auditorium at 11 am instead of the municipal corporation headquarters in Lalbagh. The provision for repair of cremation grounds and graveyards is set to increase from Rs 6 crore to Rs 10 crore, while the building repair budget is proposed to rise from Rs 5 crore to Rs 15 crore. Spending on urban solid waste management is slated to increase from Rs 30 crore to Rs 33 crore. A major proposed jump is for construction of new community halls, or Kalyan Mandaps, on municipal land, with an allocation of Rs 16 crore compared with Rs 4.40 crore in the original budget.
Officials said municipal land is being cleared and developed for public facilities. The revised budget proposes higher allocations for community infrastructure and upkeep. The revised budget does not propose an increase in funds available to the mayor, municipal commissioner or councillors under the ward development priority fund. No new tax or hike in existing tax rates has been proposed.
The committee will deliberate on the revised budget before it is placed before the municipal house.
