Kochi : A meeting of the district collector’s committee constituted to oversee the high court-directed demolition and reconstruction of towers B and C of Chander Kunj Army Towers has decided to begin the process of handing over 208 apartments in the towers to Army Welfare Housing Organisation (AWHO) on Monday.

Kerala High Court last month dismissed this petition, sources said. Kanayannur tahsildar will monitor the handing over process, which is expected to be completed within two weeks. PK Unique Project Ltd, a Tamil Nadu-based company, had filed a petition challenging the committee’s decision to award the demolition contract to Mumbai-based Edifice Engineering. Demolition experts had done preliminary inspections at the building in June. The team comprised Edifice Engineering partner Uttkarsh Mehta, South Africa’s Jet Demolition operations manager Kevin Smit and technician Robert Brinkmann. The same team was part of the Supreme Court-ordered demolition of Maradu apartment complexes, which were razed for coastal regulation zone rule violations.
