The organisers said the food service was a small gesture of gratitude towards police who work on festival days to ensure the safety and security of citizens. The organisers said all necessary permissions had been obtained from the concerned authorities. Pune: The Lions Club of Poona Sarasbaug organised a special food service for police personnel and other on-duty staff on Ganesh Visarjan day, marking the 21st year of the initiative. The initiative was organised to provide meals to police personnel, volunteers, rangoli artists and home guards deployed for maintaining law and order during the immersion processions. With lakhs of devotees participating in the festivities, the annual service aims to support those engaged in prolonged duty through the day and night. The initiative was led by Lions Kalpesh Patni and Utkarsh Gandhi.

Members of the Ranka family and the Lions Club of Poona Sarasbaug also participated in aarti at Shrimant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati, Akhil Mandai Ganpati, Saraf Association Ganpati and Bhau Rangari Ganpati mandals.
