The temple will remain closed to devotees on Monday between 9 am and 6 pm while the innermost sanctum sanctorum is being cleaned. After the cleaning work of the sanctum sanctorum is completed at 6.30pm, devotees will be able to seek darshan of the original idol in the main temple as usual. During the Navaratra festival, around 20 lakh devotees visit the Mahalaxmi Temple in Kolhapur over the course of nine days.
Directives were given instructing officers-in-charge to coordinate with the mandals so that all Durga idol arrival processions during the Navratri festival are held on the same day. Shripujak (priest) Madhav Munishwar said, “In order to avoid inconvenience to devotees while darshan inside the main temple is suspended, the darshan of the utsav-murti (festival idol) of the goddess will be made available next to the Saraswati temple inside the premises.
