Ahmedabad: The local crime branch (LCB) of Zone 8 arrested a Rajasthan native who had been absconding for nearly seven years in connection with a 2019 loot case registered at Nikol police station. The accused, Joraram Meghwal (26), was traced to Olpad in Surat, where he had been working as a labourer. Police said the arrest was made under “Operation Hunt”, launched to trace accused wanted in long-pending cases in Ahmedabad. Police said Meghwal has five other cases registered against him in Rajasthan, including offences related to housebreaking, theft, assault and robbery. Acting on a tip-off, an LCB team travelled to Surat and apprehended him. Nikol police registered a case under relevant sections of the IPC and Gujarat Police Act. Download the TOI App.
Complainant was travelling in a car from Ambikanagar in Odhav GIDC area in 2019 when four unidentified men allegedly intercepted him and took him to a location behind Bhuvaldi village, according to the case. The accused allegedly threatened him with knives before looting cash, the car and three mobile phones, collectively valued at Rs 5.2 lakh.
