Airport operator Adani said access charges for commercial vehicles are an established practice at airports across India. It said the charges would support the management and upkeep of landside facilities. The operator said it incurs expenses on security, electricity, infrastructure maintenance and traffic management.

The airport operator will levy a Rs 50 drop-off charge and increase the pick-up charge from Rs 150 to Rs 200. The revised charges will apply from Thursday (Oct 1) only to commercial cabs, while passengers arriving in private vehicles will not have to pay the new access fee. For passengers being dropped off by cab, the additional Rs 50 means an airport access charge will now be levied even when the vehicle does not wait for the passenger.
