The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Lucknow: Despite Uttar Pradesh receiving surplus rainfall during the four prime monsoon months, six districts are facing a difficult situation due to scanty or deficient rains.

Meteorological officials said monsoon started withdrawing from the state on Sept 13 and retreated from some west UP districts. However, a strong system formed over the Bay of Bengal revived monsoon in the central, eastern, Bundelkhand and Terai belt, leading to good rains till Sept 27. The normal date of monsoon withdrawal from UP is Oct 4. Overall, the state recorded 8% above normal rainfall in four months from June 1 till Sept 30. Yet, 20 districts out of 75 received deficient rains.

Officials said conditions are now becoming favourable for further withdrawal of the monsoon from the state in the coming days.
