Kanpur: Two brothers were found dead in a water-filled roadside pit near their house

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Kanpur: Two brothers were found dead in a water-filled roadside pit near their house in Nandwara village under Naraini Kotwali in Banda late Wednesday.

Manoj (6) and Ashok (4) had left home in the afternoon to play. Their family began searching for them when they did not return home and informed police around 5 pm. Naraini Kotwali in charge Bhaskar Mishra and a police team joined the search. The bodies were found in a pit containing six feet of water.

The children’s mother was allegedly assaulted by four people, including a man and his son from the village, while going for treatment on Aug 11, according to the family.

SP Palash Bansal said no evidence related to murder has emerged so far and the cause of death would be established by the postmortem report. A case had been registered, and the family linked the deaths to that dispute.

They said blood was visible from the children’s ears and noses after the bodies were recovered. The family alleged that the children might have been killed over a recent assault case and their bodies dumped in the pit. They demanded a thorough investigation and the arrest of those responsible.
