Team USA returned from the 2026 International Artificial Intelligence Olympiad (IAIO) in Ljubljana, Slovenia, with four students earning four distinctions. The team won one gold medal, one silver medal, and two honourable mentions during the competition held from February 23 to 27, 2026. All four students were selected from the 2025 USA-North America AI Olympiad, according to the USA Artificial Intelligence Olympiad in a March 2, 2026, press release about the team’s performance in Ljubljana, Slovenia, in 2026. The 2026 International Artificial Intelligence Olympiad brought together the four students representing the United States in Ljubljana, Slovenia. The event took place from February 23 to 27, 2026. USAAIO says its work includes organising K-12 AI Olympiad contests, selecting, training, and sending Team USA to international AI Olympiads such as the IOAI and IAIO, and encouraging and educating K-12 students to gain knowledge of AI and develop skills in using and improving AI. The 2026 IAIO was the international competition where the four selected students represented the United States and earned the medals and honours announced by USAAIO afterwards. It notes future international events, stating that the 2026 IOAI will be held in the UAE and the 2027 IAIO will be held in Vietnam.
